An award winning automatic flood defence floating barrier design.
When manufactured using Shellcrete, flood barriers will dramatically reduce the risk of flood damage and disruption.
Our Flood Form design features a series of permanently concealed flood barriers located in a line of slim underground chambers. The design of the chambers means that the barrier cannot be activated until absolutely necessary.
When the chambers fill with water, the concealed barrier can then lift and float vertically into position providing strong and timely protection from flood waters. As they subside, gravity enables the barrier to sink gently back into the chamber without human or mechanical intervention being required at any stage.
The strength of Shellcrete means the barrier is easily capable of withstanding the lateral and flow pressures of flood water and while concealed it can withstand the weight and strain of heavy vehicular traffic.
With Shellcrete, a slim, lightweight structure can be designed without which this and other flood defence projects would be uneconomical due to the size and weight of the floatation barrer and chamber that would be required using normal concrete.
BBA and BRE testing has shown that Shellcrete is highly suitable for this project and relatively cheap to fabricate, maintain and manage.
CIOB’s 'International Innovation and Research Awards recognised Shellform's flood defence system and awarded us The Innovation Technology and Development prize sponsored by PERA.
We were awarded €55,000 of business consultancy for our ‘Report of a proposed permanent, concealed Flood Defence Barrier, for the protection of utilities, communication centres and other vital structures.’
